AGULU, ANAMBRA STATE — In yet another devastating blow to the people of Anambra, prominent leader Oba Mmaduka Arubaluezeama (widely known as Oba Muozuluaru) has been shot dead by unknown assailants in Agulu. The shocking assassination, marked by the solemn portrait in the cover image, has thrown the community into anguish and deep mourning and once again exposes the grim, acute insecurity enveloping the entire South east.
A Bloody Pattern of Unchecked Violence
The murder of Oba Muozuluaru is not an isolated tragedy but the latest in a terrifying sequence of targeted killings, armed robberies, and kidnappings ravaging Anambra State. Verified reports demonstrate a dire and escalating situation where community figures are routinely hunted down for annihilation:
- February 2026 (Ogidi): Gunmen assassinated Chief Ikwuka Okoye, the President-General of the Ogidi Community, alongside a relative at a local school field.
- October 2024 (Nibo): A horrific massacre claimed the lives of 12 people on a single Sunday, a tragedy heavily attributed to unabated cult activities and insecurity.
- February 2024 (Umuoji): Silas Onyima, the President-General of Umuoji, was brutally attacked and murdered inside his own residence by hoodlums.
- September 2021 (Agulu): The Agulu community itself previously suffered the high-profile and shocking assassination of Dr. Chike Akunyili in Nkpor near Onitsha, which left the town deserted in grief.
An Urgent Call to Governor Chukwuma Soludo
The primary constitutional duty of any government is the protection of lives and property. Governor Chukwuma Soludo has previously acknowledged that homegrown criminal elements are heavily responsible for the kidnappings and killings terrorizing the state. However, mere acknowledgment of the problem is no longer sufficient.
While the state government has launched security outfits like Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga-achi to combat criminality, these measures have failed to permanently stem the tide of bloodshed, and the administration’s achievements are actively being overshadowed by daily terror. The people of Anambra demand that Governor Soludo urgently lives up to the responsibilities of his office as the Chief Security Officer. He must mobilize advanced intelligence, overhaul local security frameworks, and definitively secure the state before more innocent lives are violently and brutally cut short.
