ILORIN, KWARA STATE — In a landmark judgment that has sent shockwaves across the nation, the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has finally brought the gavel down on a notorious predator masquerading as a man of God. Prophet Ajiboye Abayomi, the General Overseer of the Mission House of Divine Land of Joy and Prayer Ministry, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the horrific rape of over twelve underage girls in his congregation, alongside charges of conducting illegal abortions.
The courtroom was filled with gasps of horror and tears as the sordid, spine-chilling details of the cleric’s atrocities were laid bare before the judge. Far from leading his flock to salvation, Prophet Abayomi was exposed as a monster who turned his sanctuary into a hunting ground.
In a heartbreaking testimony that brought many in the courtroom to tears, one of his teenage victims recounted the unimaginable terror she endured at the hands of the clergyman. According to her harrowing account, the so-called prophet would drag her into the church’s dark and noisy generator house, where he violently forced himself upon her. In a sickening twist of blasphemy, the predator used holy anointing oil as a lubricant to carry out his heinous acts.
The victim further revealed that the nightmare did not end there. After grueling church vigils—when members were exhausted from praying all night—the twisted Prophet would wake her up for endless rounds of forceful sex, threatening her with spiritual consequences if she dared to speak out.
The court also heard how several of the underage victims who fell pregnant from his serial abuses were forced into illegal and life-threatening abortions to cover up his monstrous tracks.
Delivering the judgment, the presiding judge expressed absolute disgust at the cleric’s actions, noting that he deliberately weaponized religion and the naivety of his congregation to satisfy his demonic urges. He was immediately stripped of his title and ordered to spend the rest of his natural life behind bars.
A GROWING CRACKDOWN ON FAKE CLERICS
This monumental sentencing in Kwara State is not an isolated event but part of a sweeping wave of justice finally catching up with criminal elements hiding behind the pulpit in Nigeria. Verifiable reports from across the country show that the law is no longer turning a blind eye to these wolves in sheep’s clothing:
- Bishop Feyi Daniels (Lagos State): In January 2024, the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sentenced Bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniels, the founder of iReign Christian Ministry, to life imprisonment. The disgraced cleric was found guilty of brutally raping his 23-year-old assistant pastor and sexually assaulting another 19-year-old member of his church inside his Lekki home. The judge banished him to the Kirikiri maximum-security prison for life.
- Bishop Kenneth Duke (Abuja): Recently, an FCT High Court in Gudu, Abuja, sentenced 52-year-old Bishop Kenneth Duke to 20 years in prison without the option of a fine. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) dragged the cleric to court for violently raping a 12-year-old girl. The victim’s mother had entrusted the child to the Bishop’s family to learn a trade, only for the cleric to send his own children on an errand and defile the minor in his living room.
The life sentence handed to Prophet Ajiboye Abayomi today serves as a monumental victory for child rights advocates and a stern warning to all fake pastors. The message is clear: the days of using the name of God to commit unspeakable atrocities and evade justice are over. The law is awake, and the predators are going down!
