An escalating wave of violent terror has struck Kano State once again. Heavily armed gunmen invaded Beli town in Rogo Local Government Area late Monday night, killing two residents and abducting the local All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka.
The Attack on Rogo LGA
The onslaught began around 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Monday when dozens of bandits descended on Beli village, near Zarewa town. The assailants opened sporadic fire with sophisticated assault weapons, forcing frightened villagers to flee into surrounding bushland for safety.
According to local witnesses, Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka had returned home shortly after attending a political engagement in nearby Zarewa. The gunmen stormed his private residence to kidnap him.
Two residents—including a young student—bravely attempted to intervene and halt the abduction. They were gunned down instantly on the spot by the heavily armed attackers.
“The two people killed couldn’t stop them from whisking away the party chairman because the attackers were in possession of heavy, sophisticated weapons,” a local community member recounted under condition of anonymity.
Escape and Suspect Arrest
Following the abduction, the gunmen fled in the direction of Babbarika village towards the Kaduna State border, leaving behind three abandoned motorcycles during their hasty retreat.
On Tuesday morning, vigilant residents in Rogo town spotted a suspect inquiring in Fulfulde about the whereabouts of the abandoned motorbikes. Community members detained the man, confiscated his mobile phones, and handed him over to police custody. Authorities suspect he acted as an informant or reconnaissance operative for the gang.

This attack marks the third major violent assault in rural Kano within a 72-hour window, igniting panic across local government areas as political activities ramp up ahead of upcoming campaigns.
