ABT NEWS EXCLUSIVE: PANDEMONIUM IN WORLD FOOTBALL AS UEFA PURSUES CRIMINAL ACTION AGAINST FIFA’S INFANTINO

By ABT News Sports Desk | www.abtnews.net

ZURICH/NEW YORK — The football world has been plunged into unprecedented uncertainty as European football’s governing body, UEFA, launched an aggressive legal blitz aimed at bringing criminal charges against FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The explosive escalation threatens to tear apart the very fabric of the sport’s global governance, pushing the war between UEFA and FIFA into courtrooms across two continents.

The Legal Blitz: Subpoenas in the U.S., Criminal Charges in Switzerland

In an audacious attempt to hold the FIFA leadership accountable, UEFA has filed sweeping ex parte applications in United States federal courts across Florida, New York, and Colorado. UEFA is demanding the release of internal documents, communications, and valuation models from FIFA entities, Infantino, and prominent American investors.

This targeted U.S. discovery process serves a singular, dramatic purpose: gathering evidence to file a formal criminal complaint in Switzerland. According to the legal filings, UEFA and other interested parties are preparing to charge Infantino and other FIFA officials with “criminal mismanagement” under Article 158 of the Swiss Criminal Code.

The Root of the Chaos: The Secret $4.2 Billion Sell-Off

The source of this pandemonium is Infantino’s now-abandoned “FIFA Forward Enterprise” (FFE) scheme. The highly secretive proposal aimed to spin off the commercial rights of the men’s and women’s World Cups, along with the Club World Cup, into a brand-new subsidiary. Infantino allegedly attempted to sell a 20% permanent stake in this entity to private investors, led by Joshua Kushner’s New York-based investment firm, Thrive Capital, for $4.2 billion.

In its 56-page legal filing, UEFA condemned the deal’s overall $20 billion valuation of FIFA’s premier tournaments as an “absurdly low enterprise value”. The European body’s lawyers went a step further, labeling the $4.2 billion figure a “fraudulently off-market price promoted by Infantino for his own benefit,” alleging the structure was a vehicle for a small circle to permanently profit from football’s most valuable assets.

A Secret Plot and Broken Trust

UEFA’s legal documents paint a picture of severe corporate betrayal. The filings allege that Infantino and a tight circle of advisors spent over a year secretly constructing the mega-deal. Bypassing FIFA’s normal governance processes, they allegedly failed to consult the FIFA Council, regional confederations, or the 211 member associations before unveiling the pitch in late July.

The fallout from the plan’s exposure triggered global outrage. UEFA initially threatened a total boycott of all FIFA tournaments, which ultimately forced Infantino to officially pull the plug on the proposal. However, the cancellation of the FFE scheme was not enough to save his presidency from immense scrutiny.

The Push to Oust Infantino

While the immediate threat of a European boycott has subsided, the campaign to remove Infantino from power has reached a fever pitch. UEFA’s lawyers state that the secretive transaction “inflicted direct and concrete injury on FIFA’s reputation, governance authority, and commercial relationships” to the detriment of its member associations.

Adding to the chaos, football leaders from North America and Asia have also blasted the FIFA chief for “deception,” leaving Infantino increasingly isolated from traditional allies. Individual member associations have reportedly begun withdrawing their support ahead of upcoming FIFA presidential elections.

As UEFA forces the issue into the courts, the prospect of a sitting FIFA President facing criminal prosecution in Switzerland has cast a dark cloud over the future of the sport. With the world’s biggest governing bodies at war, the coming weeks promise even more upheaval.
