ATLANTA — In 2001, authorities entered an Atlanta home during a drug raid, expecting to uncover a crime. Instead, they made a heartbreaking discovery: three frightened cubs from different species surviving together against every expectation. A Harrowing Discovery
Inside the home, rescuers found an American black bear named Baloo, an African lion named Leo, and a Bengal tiger named Shere Khan. All three cubs were living in terrible conditions. They were deeply malnourished and had been badly neglected by their captors.
Baloo suffered the most painful injury of the trio. A tight harness had been left on him as he grew, causing it to become deeply embedded into his body.
A Stressful Separation
To save his life, veterinarians had to perform immediate surgery to remove the ingrown harness. For a short time, the three friends had to be separated.
