ASABA, DELTA STATE — The Delta State Police Command has officially confirmed the arrest of 44-year-old Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known on social media as “Odogwu of Asaba,” following deeply disturbing allegations of rape that led to the tragic death of a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro.
Ogbonna, who runs a popular Facebook page boasting over 337,000 followers, is accused of leveraging his online fame to lure the unsuspecting young woman to Asaba under the guise of mentorship.
According to reports, Favour, a native of Ughelli North Local Government Area who resided in Warri, had reached out to the content creator after seeing his online advertisement promising to teach aspiring creators how to monetize TikTok and Facebook pages. Eager to build a career in content creation, Favour traveled to Asaba for the training.
A petition submitted to the police revealed that upon her arrival, Ogbonna made lewd advances on her prompting Favour to explicitly inform the suspect that she was a virgin and she then made it unequivocally clear that she was not interested in any romantic or sexual relationship. Despite her boundaries and desperate pleadings, Ogbonna allegedly forcefully had his way with her, physically assaulting her in the process and leaving her with injuries.
Following the traumatic ordeal, Favour returned home to Warri. She confided in her family, particularly her twin sister, recounting the horrific abuse she had endured. When Favour attempted to cry out against the injustice, Odogwu of Asaba reportedly bragged about his status, claiming he was “untouchable.”
Hitting a brick wall in her pursuit of justice on her own, Favour struggled severely with emotional trauma. Feeling hurt, hopeless, and deeply frustrated by the lack of immediate help, the 20-year-old recorded a heartbreaking video detailing the assault and the profound pain she was suffering. Shortly after, Favour ingested a toxic substance in an apparent suicide attempt. Despite frantic efforts to save her, she tragically passed away.
The tide turned when prominent human rights activist Israel Joe caught wind of the tragic incident following Favour’s demise. Vowing to pursue the case to a logical conclusion, the activist amplified the call for justice.
Following the resulting petition, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, ordered an immediate, full-scale investigation. Operatives of the Area Command in Effurun swiftly moved in and arrested Ifeanyi Ogbonna.
Delta State Police spokesperson, DSP Edafe Bright, confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and has been making useful statements as investigations continue to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the case.
In a stark contrast to his earlier boasts of being untouchable, witnesses at the police station report that as soon as the accused was manacled, he broke down and began pleading for forgiveness. Heart-wrenching scenes unfolded at the station as Ogbonna was seen begging his late victim’s grieving twin sister for mercy.
