The world of international football just received a blessing from the highest possible authority—but not for the teams you might expect!
As the globe braces for the massive, highly anticipated 48-team World Cup tournament kicking off this Thursday, one burning question has dominated the minds of the Catholic faithful and football fanatics alike: Who has the Holy Father’s backing?
Speaking exclusively to a stunned press corps on Saturday aboard the papal flight from Rome to Madrid, Pope Leo finally broke his silence. The tension in the cabin was palpable. With the tournament mere days away, reporters leaned in, expecting the Pontiff to offer a diplomatic, neutral response. Perhaps he would side with a traditional European titan? Or maybe an underdog nation?
The Pope leaned toward the microphone, a knowing smile playing on his lips. The silence was deafening before he finally dropped the ultimate shocker: The leader of the Catholic Church will be throwing his full spiritual weight behind none other than the United States Men’s National Team!
That’s right! The U.S. soccer squad just gained the ultimate heavenly advantage heading into Thursday’s opening matches.
But His Holiness wasn’t done leaving journalists breathless.
Knowing the Pope was descending into Madrid—the very epicenter of the most ferocious, bitter club rivalry in the history of the sport—one daring reporter asked the ultimate taboo question. When it comes to the legendary clash between La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, where do his loyalties lie?
It was a dangerous question. Alienating either massive fanbase could cause a global uproar. For a moment, the Pope gave the perfect, textbook diplomatic answer.
“The pope is for all teams,” he stated calmly, seemingly dodging the fiery debate.
The reporters began to lower their notepads, assuming the moment had passed. But then, a twinkle appeared in the Holy Father’s eye. Leaning back into the microphone, he stripped away his papal title, invoking the man he was before ascending to the papacy—the American-born Robert Prevost.
The cabin held its breath as he delivered a devastatingly brilliant final verdict that will echo through the streets of Spain forever:
“Prevost is for Real Madrid.”
Boom!
The Los Blancos faithful have officially received the ultimate celestial endorsement, while Barcelona fans are left praying for a miracle!
As the U.S. prepares to take the pitch this Thursday, and Real Madrid fans celebrate their newfound papal bragging rights, one thing is absolutely certain: Pope Leo just proved he is the most unpredictable and thrilling football fan on the planet.
