The unbelievable scene unfolded in Guatemalan on Saturday, October 10, in the rural village of El Jocote, located in the municipality of Sacapulas, Quiché.
The harrowing ordeal began in the early morning hours when 15-year-old Yuleidy Ixcotoyac was struck by severe chest pain and collapsed. Panic-stricken, her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, an evangelical pastor in the community, rushed to drive her toward a nearby medical center.
However, before reaching the hospital, tragedy seemingly struck. According to the father, he pulled over to check on his daughter and, finding no discernible pulse or breath, made the heartbreaking assumption that she had passed away. Crucially, no doctor ever examined the teenager, and no official death certificate was ever issued.
Overwhelmed by grief and following local customs for swift arrangements, Pastor Ixcotoyac abandoned the hospital trip, turned back home, purchased a casket, and prepared for a rapid wake.
For roughly eight hours, Yuleidy lay motionless inside an open casket at her family home as relatives, neighbors, and members of her father’s congregation gathered to mourn the young girl.
But what started as a scene of profound sorrow abruptly transformed into absolute chaos and disbelief. As mourners crowded around the viewing window, Yuleidy’s weeping mother noticed subtle movements coming from inside the box. Moments later, to the absolute shock of everyone present, the “deceased” teenager suddenly sat upright, blinking against the light and beginning to speak.
Footage capturing the surreal aftermath quickly went viral online, showing stunned family members yelling out in joy, lifting the shaken teenager out of the coffin, and handing her a cup of water.
Yuleidy later reported that the last thing she remembered before blacking out was experiencing crushing chest pain, waking up entirely unaware of the hours spent inside a casket until her family broke the news to her.
While many on social media and within her community have hailed her survival as a divine miracle, with her father and the teen herself crediting God for her return, the bizarre incident has also sparked intense debate.
