ABT NEWS INVESTIGATION: Mounting Controversies Surround President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila

A series of emerging reports, leaked videos, and internal petitions have placed Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the centre of multiple political storms, raising questions about political conduct, internal party interference, and unresolved allegations tied to wider corruption probes.

Viral Video Sparks Accusations of Political Interference

A recently surfaced video shows Gbajabiamila urging House of Representatives member Leke Abejide to “stay in ADC… fight them… scatter them” during a private event in Abuja. The footage, recorded at the 50th birthday celebration of Abejide’s wife, has triggered widespread backlash across social media, with many Nigerians interpreting the remarks as encouragement to destabilise the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from within.

Online reactions have been intense, with commentators describing the comments as “damaging to the image of the presidency” and a “fight against democracy.” Critics argue that the statements reinforce concerns about ruling‑party interference in opposition structures.

Corruption Allegations Resurface in AMCON–CBN Probe

Separate reports have linked Gbajabiamila to allegations arising from the Special Investigator’s probe into former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele and AMCON CEO Ahmed Kuru. According to SaharaReporters, sources claimed Gbajabiamila was among individuals who allegedly benefitted from property-related largesse connected to the controversial acquisition of several Nigerian banks. These claims emerged amid revelations of a ₦25 billion loan scheme allegedly used to acquire Keystone Bank through a complex round‑tripping arrangement.

While the Special Investigator’s report did not formally indict Gbajabiamila, the allegations have intensified scrutiny around his past role as Speaker and his proximity to key actors implicated in the financial scandal.

Family Rift: Cousin Alleges Political Persecution and Complicity

In a separate development, Gbajabiamila’s cousin, Mobolaji Gbajabiamila, has accused the Chief of Staff of indirectly enabling actions that led to his detention in Ikoyi Prison. In letters to law‑enforcement authorities and President Tinubu, Mobolaji alleges he was targeted with politically motivated accusations by local APC officials and claims the Chief of Staff failed to intervene despite knowing the allegations were false.

Mobolaji further asserts that he faces intimidation within the party structure and fears for his safety, citing previous detentions and what he describes as systematic suppression by political actors in Surulere.

Growing Public Concern

Taken together, the video controversy, corruption‑related allegations, and internal family dispute have fuelled public debate about political ethics, accountability, and the conduct of senior officials within the administration.

As reactions continue to unfold, Nigerians across social platforms insist that these issues demand transparent investigation, arguing that the integrity of democratic institutions depends on it.
