JUSTICE AFTER 30 YEARS: KEFFE D FOUND GUILTY IN TUPAC SHAKUR’S MURDER!

LAS VEGAS — In a historic, bombshell verdict that has sent shockwaves through the music world, a Nevada jury has officially found former South Side Compton Crip leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon for orchestrating the September 1996 drive-by shooting of rap icon Tupac Shakur.

After nearly three decades of cold leads, conspiracy theories, and painful waiting for the Shakur family, justice arrived in under three hours of jury deliberation following a gripping nine-day trial.

TEARS & DRAMA IN THE COURTROOM

As the verdict was read in Clark County District Court, emotional scenes erupted:

  • Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, Tupac’s sister, burst into tears and reached back to embrace loved ones, bringing an emotional end to 30 years of unanswered questions.
  • Davis’ family watched in stunned silence, with his son covering his face in his hands as his father’s fate was sealed.
  • Davis, 63, remained stoic, though he immediately informed Judge Carli Kierny of his intent to appeal and boldly requested his confiscated laptop and phone back.

THE “SHOT CALLER” AND THE MGM GRAND REVENGE

Prosecutors painted Davis as the ruthless “on-ground, on-site commander” who plotted the hit.

  • The Triggering Incident: Earlier on Sept. 7, 1996, Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight, Tupac, and their entourage physically assaulted Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, in the MGM Grand lobby.
  • The Retaliation: Prosecutors argued Davis went “hunting” for Shakur, sourcing a .40-caliber Glock handgun, securing the white Cadillac, and handing the weapon to the backseat shooter.
  • Nevada Law: Under state law, direct trigger-pullers and facilitators who orchestrate a killing carry equal legal weight for first-degree murder. Davis is the last surviving member of the four men inside that infamous Cadillac.

CONVICTED BY HIS OWN BRAGS

In an extraordinary twist of fate, the state’s primary witness was effectively Keffe D himself.

For years, Davis openly bragged about his involvement in national television interviews and his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend. While defense attorney Michael Sanft argued Davis was merely “boasting for profit and fame,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo delivered a mic-drop closing point:

“Had he decided to never write the book, he would not, probably, have ever been prosecuted for the crime.”
