UMUOKEREKE NGWA, ABIA STATE — A wave of shock and grief has gripped the Umuokereke Ngwa community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State following the alleged murder of a man, Innocent Nwaoji, by his wife, Innocent Serah.
According to local reports, the tragic incident occurred on Saturday night inside the couple’s residence. Sources indicate that Mr. Nwaoji was attacked and fatally stabbed while he was asleep in bed.
Married Barely Eight Months
The couple had reportedly tied the knot in December 2025, having been married for only about eight months before the tragic event.
Speaking on the incident, a community resident, David Amaraizu, expressed profound disbelief over the tragedy, noting that there were no prior visible signs of domestic discord between the pair.
“We are not aware of any disagreement between the couple before the incident. The woman has been arrested and is currently in police custody, while the deceased’s body has been deposited at a morgue,” Amaraizu stated.
Police Reaction and Ongoing Investigation
The suspect, Innocent Serah, has been apprehended by law enforcement officers and remains in custody pending further investigation.
When contacted regarding the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Abia State Command, Maureen Chinaka, indicated that an official response would be made available as investigations progress.
This incident adds to a troubling pattern of domestic violence cases in the state, coming months after another fatal spousal stabbing was recorded in Umuahia earlier this year.
