“This Order Will Not Stand”: NDC Founder Seriake Dickson Slams Court Ruling against NDC as Anti-Democratic!

By ABT NEWS | www.abtnews.net

Former Bayelsa State Governor and founder of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, has strongly condemned a recent court ruling against the party, describing the decision as an illegal and politically motivated attempt to undermine the party’s growing popularity.

Vowing that the NDC will challenge the ruling and ultimately prevail, Dickson argued that the court order lacks any legal merit. Instead, he claimed it was deliberately designed to weaken the party’s credibility and stifle Nigeria’s broader multi-party democracy.

“The order is illegal and will not stand. It is against multi-party democracy, anti-democratic in nature, and aimed at narrowing and shrinking the democratic space,” Dickson declared. He confirmed that the party has already mobilized its legal defense, adding, “We have assembled our team of lawyers, and they are taking the necessary steps to set the order aside and restore normalcy.”

Addressing the party’s base, the former governor called for steadfastness in the face of the legal hurdle. “I urge all our members, supporters, and candidates to remain calm and continue their normal political activities. This is only the first test of our commitment and resilience, and even this shall pass,” he said.

Dickson alleged that the legal action was orchestrated by outside political interests who have been unsettled by the NDC’s rapid rise within just five months of its formation. Highlighting what he views as a fatal flaw in the lawsuit, Dickson pointed out that the applicant is neither a registered political party nor an association that sought registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), meaning they have no valid legal interest in the matter.

“We know where this is coming from,” Dickson asserted. “It is coming from those who are shocked by the progress the NDC has made within such a short period through hard work and commitment to deepening multi-party democracy.”

He maintained that the NDC would pursue every lawful avenue to overturn the “judicial anomaly,” expressing absolute confidence that the party will emerge stronger from the ordeal.

“We are under attack, as I have repeatedly warned we should expect challenges such as this. But thereafter, we shall win,” Dickson concluded. “Thousands of Nigerians have continued to join the NDC in solidarity, and I sincerely thank Nigerians for the confidence they repose in our vision. Their support only strengthens our resolve to continue the struggle for a vibrant multi-party democracy in Nigeria.”
