CHECKMATE OR SUICIDE MISSION? Wike Dares Fubara With Impeachment Threat if He Dares Leave APC!

PORT HARCOURT — The political earthquake rocking Rivers State has just hit a terrifying 9.0 on the Richter scale! If you thought the battle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was over, you are highly mistaken.

Fresh, verified reports indicate that Wike has drawn the ultimate red line in the sand, allegedly threatening to unleash the Martin Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Fubara immediately if he makes any move to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to another political party.

The Masterstroke That Trapped Fubara

Just months ago, in December 2025, Governor Fubara defected to the APC, calling it a “spiritual assignment” to align with President Bola Tinubu and escape Wike’s iron grip on the state’s PDP structure. But the FCT Minister, a master political strategist, simply moved his chess pieces to the APC as well.

Recent events have shown that Wike’s camp has completely hijacked the Rivers APC machinery. Just days ago in May 2026, Wike’s loyalists spectacularly swept the APC screenings, deliberately disqualifying key Fubara allies. The heat was so intense that Governor Fubara and his loyalists were forced to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries entirely.

Now, Fubara is a tenant in his own house. His supporters are reportedly begging him to defect to the Action Democratic Party (ADC) or Action Peoples Party (APP) to salvage his political future ahead of 2027. But Wike, anticipating this exact move, has allegedly placed the 26 pro-Wike lawmakers on standby, ready to drop the impeachment hammer the exact minute Fubara announces a defection.

How Did We Get Here?

The descent of Rivers State into this political warzone didn’t happen overnight. Here is how Wike systematically cornered his former political godson:

The State of Emergency March – Sept 2025

Following intense violence and a botched first impeachment attempt against Fubara, President Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers, appointing a military administrator to restore order.

The ‘Spiritual’ Defection December 2025

Seeking federal protection, Governor Fubara officially defects to the APC, believing an alignment with President Tinubu will finally get Wike off his back.

The Second Impeachment Push January 2026

Despite Fubara joining the APC, pro-Wike lawmakers initiate a second wave of impeachment proceedings, citing extra-budgetary spending and the demolition of the Assembly complex.

The Primary Election Hijack May 2026

Wike’s camp completely sweeps the Rivers APC screenings. Fubara’s loyalists are disqualified, forcing the Governor to abruptly withdraw from the APC governorship primaries.

Fubara’s Back Against the Wall: What Are His Options?

Right now, Governor Fubara is walking a tightrope over a pit of political crocodiles. With his loyalists crying out of frustration and the APC structure locked tight by Wike, the Governor has only three terrifying options left:

The StrategyRisk LevelProbable Consequence
Defect to a Third Force (APP/ADC)ExtremeTriggers Wike’s trap; the Assembly immediately launches full impeachment proceedings, plunging Rivers back into constitutional chaos.
Stay in APC & FightHighFubara becomes a lame-duck governor. Without the party ticket, he loses the 2027 election and hands the state back to Wike on a silver platter.
Surrender to WikeModerateComplete political suicide. Fubara loses his loyal base, destroys his credibility, and becomes a figurehead governor taking direct orders from Abuja.

The silence from the Presidential Villa in Abuja is deafening!. Is President Tinubu willing to sacrifice a sitting APC Governor just to appease the powerful FCT Minister ahead of 2027?

One thing is certain: Nyesom Wike is playing a brutal game of political chess, and Governor Fubara is running out of moves.

What do you think Governor Fubara should do? Should he call Wike’s bluff and defect, or stay in the APC and fight? Drop your thoughts in the comment section and SHARE this ABT NEWS exclusive with everyone!
