LAGOS, NIGERIA — Distinguished novelist, academic, and prominent public intellectual, Professor Okey Ndibe, has been arrested and detained by operatives of the State Security Services (SSS).
The incident occurred early this morning immediately upon his arrival in Nigeria from his base in the United States.
SSS Awaits “Orders From Above”
Sources close to the development confirm that SSS officials at the airport have refused to clear the academic, insisting that they are strictly waiting for “orders from above” before he can be released or permitted to go about his business.
Professor Ndibe traveled to Nigeria to accomplish several critical, time-bound academic and professional duties. Close associates express deep concern that this sudden and unwarranted detention is actively impeding his itinerary and causing significant disruptions to his pre-scheduled engagements.
