PORT HARCOURT — In a stunning revelation that exposes the high-stakes political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has confessed that he will be the ultimate political casualty if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fails to secure a second term.
Speaking with brutal honesty during a fiery media chat in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the former Rivers State Governor declared that opposition heavyweights, specifically ADC Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and NDC Presidential candidate Peter Obi, are waiting in the wings to politically annihilate him should power change hands.
“I Will Be Their First Target”
Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite serving as a cornerstone of the APC-led administration, made it clear that his relentless and unapologetic support for President Tinubu has placed a massive target on his back.
“If anything happens and Mr President fails today, I will be the first politician that Atiku and Obi will hunt for his head,” Wike stated emphatically. “I will be the first politician that I think they will come after… I know they will come for my head”.
The FCT Minister’s fears are deeply rooted in the bitter political warfare of the 2023 elections, where he spearheaded the G5 Governors’ rebellion that fatally fractured the PDP and paved the way for Tinubu’s victory over Atiku. Now, Wike believes that any shift in power would result in devastating political retaliation.
Sleeping, Eating, and Breathing 2027
Driven by this existential political threat, Wike revealed that securing Tinubu’s 2027 re-election has consumed his every waking—and sleeping—moment. He is leaving nothing to chance, vowing to fight fiercely to ensure the current administration retains power.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the President’s re-election. When I am eating, I am thinking about the President’s re-election. Everything I am doing now is about the President’s re-election,” the Minister confessed.
Dismissing the relentless name-calling and backlash he faces for his cross-party alliance, Wike doubled down on his commitment. “I don’t see where anybody in this country today that has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their own thing. My business is… I am going to support Mr President”.
A Battle for Political Survival
Wike’s extraordinary candour confirms what political analysts have long suspected: the 2027 election is no longer just about national leadership for the FCT Minister; it is a brutal battle for his own political survival. Refusing to be caught off guard, he issued a direct challenge to his detractors, promising that he will not rest on his oars.
“I won’t make that mistake of sleeping while the president loses the election, no, because I know they will come for my head,” Wike declared, signaling the start of what promises to be a fiercely contested electoral cycle.
With 2027 slowly creeping onto the horizon, one thing is certain: Nyesom Wike is prepared to go all out to defend the Tinubu presidency, fully aware that his own political head is on the chopping block.
