Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has vehemently shut down rumors that he privately messaged a South African woman, threatening legal action over what he calls fabricated screenshots.
The controversy ignited when a woman, identified on social media as Lethabo, shared screenshots of an alleged Instagram direct message conversation with the singer. In the purported exchange, an account bearing Davido’s name appeared to compliment her, reading: “Hey, you are such a pretty girl. Lethabo is a rare name. Where are you from?”
However, the “Unavailable” hitmaker was quick to debunk the claims. Taking to social media, Davido categorically rejected the screenshots as entirely fake. To prove his point, the singer highlighted inconsistencies in the alleged messages, urging fans to compare the screenshots being circulated with the actual appearance of his official Instagram messaging interface.
Reacting with evident frustration, Davido issued a stern warning to the individual behind the allegations. “Who’s this bastard! Better stop it before you get your dùmb ass sued! Stop [expletive] around,” he wrote.
The singer expressed disappointment that many adults online were quick to believe the unverified screenshots without noticing the obvious discrepancies in the app’s interface. He suggested that the entire ordeal was a desperate attempt by the woman to chase clout and gain online attention.
The incident has sparked widespread debate across social media platforms. While some fans initially scrutinized the screenshots, many have since rallied behind Davido, echoing his observations about the tampered messaging interface and calling out the growing trend of generating fake celebrity interactions for social media engagement.
