Nollywood Actress Omotola Jalade Opens Up on Marriage: ‘My Husband Knows I Don’t Even Love Him All the Time’

Nollywood superstar Omotola Jalade has sparked a fresh conversation on the realities of long-term relationships after offering an unusually candid perspective on her marriage to Captain Matthew Ekeinde. In a recent interview, the veteran actress revealed that their enduring union is built less on the expectation of constant romantic feelings and more on conscious choice, open communication, and shared values.

Challenging the societal pressure to present marriage as a perpetually perfect fairy tale, Omotola explained that she and her husband are comfortable discussing their changing emotions, disagreements, and vulnerabilities.

“My husband knows that I’m not with him because I love him all the time. I’m with him because I choose,” she said. The actress admitted that there are moments when she sees other attractive men and questions her choices, emphasizing that these fleeting thoughts are simply part of the human experience.

For Omotola, marriage is a partnership between two individuals on their own personal journeys. Rather than pretending to be deeply in love every single day, she stressed the importance of acknowledging the natural ebbs and flows of a relationship, which include periods of frustration, emotional distance, and renewed affection.

The actress also credited her faith as a stabilizing force in her marriage. When experiencing moments of low affection toward her husband, she revealed that she turns to God rather than allowing temporary emotions to dictate the direction of their relationship.

Omotola criticized the tendency for society to portray marriage as something so sacred or flawless that it stifles honest conversations. She noted that her relationship works because both partners respect each other’s personal space, individuality, and choices while remaining steadfastly committed to walking through life together.

Her remarks have got so many tongues wagging, presenting a refreshing departure from the conventional idea that lasting marriages require couples to be continuously “in love.” For the actress, true commitment means continuously choosing your partner, even when the romantic spark dims, and allowing your feelings to evolve naturally over time. Anything less is stretching the elasticity of lip service to alarming proportions!
