In a harrowing story of heartbreak and unexpected betrayal, former retail banker Mr. Francis Ushie has opened up to ABT NEWS about a devastating family ordeal that left him completely cut off from his wife and four children.
The strain on the marriage originally began while the family was still residing in Nigeria, where disagreements surrounding alleged infidelity began to tear them apart. Hoping that a fresh start overseas would heal their marriage, Ushie voluntarily resigned from his position at the bank after the family successfully secured Canadian permanent residency with all the bills solely borne by him.
His wife and their four children traveled ahead to Canada, while Ushie remained behind in Nigeria for nearly a year to allow his former employer to complete a routine audit of his banking position.
Stranded at Calgary Airport
When Ushie finally boarded a flight to Calgary, Alberta, in November 2014 to rejoin his family, he was met with a nightmare scenario. Upon landing, he discovered that his wife had blocked his communications and refused to disclose the family’s new address, leaving him stranded at the airport with nowhere to go.
“Unfortunately, when my wife got there, she blocked me and didn’t give me the address where she was staying. I was stranded at the airport,” Ushie recalled.
With no address and no way to reach his family, Ushie was forced to use his return ticket to fly back to Nigeria. His plans to make another attempt to travel back to Canada were subsequently delayed while he pursued property demolition compensation from the Lagos State Government and awaited pending business funds.
Years of Isolation and a Father’s Emotional Appeal
Ushie has remained in Nigeria since 2016, describing the prolonged period apart from his loved ones as a deeply lonely existence. He alleged that all attempts to communicate with his children have been blocked by their mother.
Despite years of separation, Ushie refuses to give up hope for reconciliation. Reaching out directly to his children, he pointed out that he played a vital financial role in securing their new life abroad. According to Ushie, he personally paid for all of their passports, flight tickets, and two full years of housing rent in Canada.
“Please, my children, I am a very, very responsible father, that loves you all” Ushie pleaded.
Ushie’s painful experience serves as a stark cautionary tale that emphasizes the vital importance of having a backup plan in life and learning from the painful mistakes and misfortunes of others. Trusting his wife blindly has become his greatest undoing!
