The Nigerian entertainment industry has been plunged into deep sorrow following the tragic death of veteran Nollywood actor, filmmaker, and comedian Okiki Adeshina, widely known to fans as “Janmole.” The beloved Yoruba film star reportedly lost his life in a fatal car accident on Monday.
The heartbreaking news was officially confirmed on Tuesday morning by Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as “Mr Latin,” who serves as the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
Taking to Instagram to break the news, Mr Latin paid a solemn tribute to his late colleague, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and asking for comfort for his grieving family.
“May the soul of our departed colleague, Adesina Okiki Janmole, who tragically lost his life in an accident, rest in perfect peace,” Amusan wrote. “May God grant his family, friends, and colleagues the strength and comfort to bear this irreparable loss. He will be greatly missed.”
As the news spread, an outpouring of grief flooded social media from fans and fellow actors alike, expressing shock and disbelief over the sudden loss. Fellow actor Jomiloju Olunbe shared a poignant reflection of their final time together on set, recalling Adeshina’s signature humor and vibrant spirit. “I never knew it would be the last time on set with him. What a life! Rest in peace, Okiki Adeshina,” Olunbe wrote.
Janmole carved out a highly respected place for himself in the Yoruba movie industry, earning widespread acclaim for his compelling performances in hit films such as Agunbaniro, Ìyàwó Asante, and Ọgbọ́n Inu. Beyond traditional acting, he had recently expanded his reach to digital platforms, building a massive and dedicated following on TikTok where his charisma and comedic skits mesmerized thousands of younger fans.
Tragically, his passing comes nearly four years after he narrowly survived a horrific fire incident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, an escape many fans celebrated as a miracle at the time.
